Algorand Foundation has unveiled a roadmap to transition the Algorand network to full protection against quantum computing threats by 2027–2028. The announcement sets out a structured plan to gradually upgrade the network’s cryptographic foundations.
To begin with, in 2026, the rollout will introduce a series of phased protocol enhancements, including post-quantum account systems, updated multi-signature wallets, and expanded staking support. These changes are intended to be deployed step by step, allowing a coordinated migration across core network components.
Meanwhile, other major blockchain ecosystems, including Ethereum and Solana, are also pursuing research and development in post-quantum cryptography to strengthen future network security.
