Australia to Enforce New Crypto Travel Rule From July 1

Starting July 1, Australia will implement its crypto travel rule, mandating that users of regulated crypto exchanges provide extra information for all digital asset transfers entering or leaving their accounts.

Under the new requirements, users must provide the sender's or recipient's name and platform details for crypto transfers. Those sending funds to self-custody wallets will also be required to verify ownership of the destination address.

The rules will be enforced by the Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC), which said the measures are intended to improve the traceability of cryptocurrency transactions and help curb money laundering, terrorist financing, and crypto-related scams.
