In a recent interview, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) proposed that if Bitcoin is ever upgraded via a fork to introduce quantum-resistant cryptography, long-dormant wallets linked to Satoshi could be granted a 6–12 month window to move an estimated 1 million BTC.
If those funds remain untouched after that period, he said the updated protocol could potentially freeze those addresses under the new rules. The idea is intended to mitigate risks that could emerge from future advances in quantum computing.
He further cautioned that no single solution is perfect and emphasized that any final approach would need broad consensus from the Bitcoin community, potentially coordinated through miner signaling.
