Canadian Teen Pleads Guilty After $13M Crypto Spree Funded Jets and Supercars

A Canadian man has pleaded guilty in a cryptocurrency theft case involving more than $13 million in stolen digital assets.

US prosecutors said Trenton Richard Johnston—who was 19 at the time of the scheme and is now 20—worked alongside others in a coordinated social engineering operation. The group allegedly impersonated employees of companies such as Google and Trezor to deceive victims and gain access to their crypto accounts.

After the funds were obtained, authorities said they were spent on a luxury lifestyle in cities including Miami and Los Angeles, covering high-end cars, jewelry, and private jet travel.

As part of a plea agreement, Johnston admitted to conspiracy to commit money laundering, avoiding additional charges that could have carried a maximum sentence of up to 40 years in prison.
