Michael Selig, the sole sitting commissioner at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, currently holds significant authority over regulatory decisions involving crypto assets, prediction markets, and derivatives.
Since taking office less than six months ago, Selig has guided a shift toward a more open regulatory stance on digital assets. This includes supporting approvals for new crypto-related products, updating enforcement priorities, and advancing rulemaking connected to prediction markets and cryptocurrencies.
Meanwhile, his influence is expected to expand further as U.S. lawmakers review legislation that could increase the CFTC’s authority over crypto markets, potentially strengthening the agency’s regulatory scope.
