Coinbase is investigating an AI-generated prediction market alert that incorrectly reported a 3-2 victory for Norway over Brazil before kickoff, raising concerns about the reliability of its AI-powered prediction markets.
The erroneous notification also said striker Erling Haaland scored twice, despite Coinbase’s own market page showing the game was delayed due to weather and that no official result had been recorded at the time.
In response, Chief Executive Brian Armstrong said he is reviewing the issue with his team. Meanwhile, the development has drawn renewed attention to Coinbase’s characterization of prediction markets as truth-discovery tools and sparked questions about the strength of AI safeguards across its financial services.
