Coinbase’s Australian arm has launched dedicated support for self-managed super funds (SMSFs). The move positions cryptocurrency as a potential new asset class for local retirement portfolios.
The offering includes SMSF-specific onboarding, audit-ready reporting, and institutional-grade custody designed for long-term asset storage. Together, these features aim to provide trustees with a compliant pathway for gaining exposure to digital assets within Australia’s retirement system.
SMSFs, retirement funds managed directly by their members, play a major role in the country’s superannuation landscape. According to the Australian Tax Office, SMSFs accounted for more than 653,000 funds and approximately AUD 1.05 trillion in assets as of June 2025. In total, they covered over 1.2 million members.
