Ethereum Enters Final Testing Phase for 2026 “Glamsterdam” Upgrade

Ethereum core developers have moved into the final stage of development for the upcoming “Glamsterdam” upgrade, expected to be one of the network’s major updates in 2026.

During this phase, teams are carrying out full-scale testing on private developer networks, working through the complete set of planned Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs). This testing stage serves as the final step before the code is locked, after which it will be frozen ahead of deployment to public test networks.

The upgrade is focused on improving Layer 1 scalability and overall performance. It introduces several key changes, including Block-Level Access Lists and Enshrined Proposer-Builder Separation (ePBS), both intended to enhance how blocks are constructed and processed across Ethereum.
