France has seen a sharp rise in crimes connected to the crypto sector, recording 77 cases of kidnapping, extortion, unlawful detention, or attempted offenses so far this year, compared with 45 cases in 2025, according to French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez.
The minister described the situation as serious and acknowledged that concerns raised by the crypto industry are legitimate. He also noted that authorities have strengthened enforcement measures in response, with around 200 arrests made either after incidents were reported or through preventive operations aimed at preventing further crimes.
