Lawson, one of Japan’s three largest convenience store chains, is set to test JPYC payments in early August at its Tokyo location inside the Takanawa Gateway City complex, as the retailer expands its digital payment capabilities.
The trial, conducted in partnership with HashPort, will allow customers to make purchases using barcode-based payments from their digital wallets at checkout. According to Lawson, the initiative will mark Japan’s first stablecoin payment trial integrated directly into a retail point-of-sale system.
