Sophon Ditches L2 Blockchain to Build Consumer Apps on Base

Sophon, a ZK-powered Layer 2 project that previously raised $60 million, has announced it will discontinue its native blockchain and shift its focus toward building a consumer product studio called SOPH on Base.

According to the company, maintaining its own blockchain has become financially inefficient, with high operational costs that are not matched by sufficient value generation. Consequently, it plans to move away from infrastructure development and focus on application-layer products where it sees greater long-term opportunity.

Leading this transition is its first product, Pyre, scheduled for launch in early July. The app is designed to combine everyday financial functions such as spending, saving, transfers, and yield features with interactive entertainment-driven experiences integrated into each transaction.
