Sui Shares Findings on Recent Mainnet Downtime Events

The Sui Foundation said three consecutive mainnet outages on Thursday and Friday were traced to two separate software bugs introduced in the v1.72 upgrade. The first two disruptions were caused by a gas-fee charging issue linked to the network’s address balances feature.

In response, developers rolled out an interim fix. However, that temporary patch included a known low-probability risk, which later triggered a third network halt.

That final disruption occurred when validators restarted the network to apply the updated fix and encountered a separate bug affecting the preservation of randomness settings.

Sui said all issues have since been resolved, with no user funds impacted and no finalized transactions reversed. The foundation added that it has also introduced a mechanism to force-close stalled epochs, strengthening the network’s recovery process.
