Telegram founder Pavel Durov has said the company will take a much more active role in The Open Network (TON), becoming its largest validator and effectively stepping into a leading position that could reduce the TON Foundation’s central influence over the blockchain’s development.
In a Telegram post, Durov said network fees have already fallen sixfold to “near zero” and outlined plans to reposition TON around “tech superiority." The roadmap includes a refreshed website, new developer tools, and performance upgrades expected within the coming weeks. He described the initiative as part of a broader push to “Make TON Great Again.”
The move would deepen Telegram’s integration with TON’s infrastructure and roadmap. In doing so, it would further link the blockchain to the messaging platform that has helped drive its adoption. However, key details remain unclear. In particular, these include the TON Foundation’s future role and the extent of Telegram’s validator stake and governance influence.
Markets responded positively to the announcement, with Toncoin (TON) surging 31.1% in 24 hours to $1.83, according to CoinGecko.
